RU Athletics and Program Support
Goal: $4 Million
University athletics make a huge impact. For students, athletic events are where they meet up with friends, foster commeraderie, celebrate school spirit and relax while they are out of the classroom. For alumni, athletic events help keep them in touch with former classmates, show pride in their alma mater and relax while they are out of the workplace. The athletes themselves get to learn more about and continue to be involved in an event they love and supporters get to enjoy the thrill of competition. For a number of years, RU Athletics have consistently competed at the upper echelon of the Big South Conference and in the region, often claiming championships and sending teams and individuals to NCAA post-season tournaments.
SCHOLARSHIPS are a great way to attract the strongest athletes. The Highlander Club, formed by a group of dedicated supporters, raises funds for athletic scholarships and program support. However, the university is only able to fund slightly more than 50 percent of the scholarships allowed by the NCAA. Your scholarship support will enable RU to recruit champion athletes and make the Radford University teams the strongest competitors they can be.
ADDITIONAL SUPPORT is needed to fund equipment for the Athletic Academic Study Center, assist athletes in the purchase of books and supplies and help enhance facilities. Academic support is crucial as RU’s more than 300 student-athletes demonstrate that they are students first. The majority of RU’s student-athletes boast average GPAs over 3.0.
