“RU is very important to me. Not only am I an employee of Radford but I’m an alumna as well. I give because I see the need to expand programs to better serve our students. This affords the students the opportunities to become more competitive upon entering into the workforce.”“I believe it is important to help fellow employees’ students excel while achieving a quality education at RU. For this reason, I support the Staff Senate Scholarship. The first scholarship was awarded in 2003 and since then has assisted the family members of staff across the campus from Education majors to Nursing students.”
Connie started at Radford University in 1993 as a 1500 hour wage employee in the Department of Material Management and Contracts (Purchasing Office) and accepted a full time position in the same department in 1994. She later transferred to the Budget Office in April 1997 where she is currently employed. While working at Radford, she completed her Bachelor of General Studies degree with a Business Concentration in 2002. Since graduation, she has continued to enroll in graduate and undergraduate level courses in her commitment to life-long learning.
In her tenure at Radford University, she has seen the University grow with the expansion of the campus and the offering of more diversified programs. “I’m in support of the 7-17 Strategic Plan; in particular, creating a campus environment where diversity of thought and personal background are highly respected and where the campus culture values and models inclusiveness in all that we do.”
Connie is the advisor for the Deliverance Gospel Choir and is a supporter of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. She currently serves as the vice president of the Association of Black Professionals at Radford
University and the advisor of the university’s Staff Senate.
Each year, the Faculty and Staff Campaign raises thousands of dollars toward the funding of student scholarships and programs, library resources and building and technology enhancements. “Employee participation gives a strong message of internal support for those outside of our University.” said Penny Helms White, Director of Annual Giving for University Advancement.
