Radford University audiologist and professor Ken Cox’s program “Hearing Healthcare Services for the Needy Elderly in Southwest Virginia” has received $10,000 from the Carlot Endowment to provide hearing services for seniors aged 55 and older, includes testing, hearing aid fitting and follow up by a licensed and certified clinical audiologist.
The late RU professor emeritus of design Fernande Gard, in memory of her mother Fernande Carlot Gard and her grandfather Albert Carlot, created the Carlot Endowment through the RU Foundation. The fund supports programs that emphasize services to the needy older population of Southwestern Virginia. Gard wished to provide these services because of her personal experience with care for the elderly.
Low cost hearing aids are also available thanks to the Starkey Hear Now Foundation.
Hearing services are provided in the RU Family Health Clinic on the first floor of Waldron Hall. Charges for services are dependent upon income.
