The following is taken from a letter written by Jasmine Elmore, recipient of the Paul W. Harris Leadership Scholarship.  Jasmine is a foods and nutrition major and a member of the Honors Academy .  She was one of thirteen students chosen as a 2005-2006 Outstanding Student.

I selected Radford University over acceptance from several other universities, such as UVA, Virginia Tech, and Howard University because of what I believed I could do for RU and what RU could do for my future. Upon my graduation, I feel that RU can assist in the obtaining of internships, networking venues, and elite opportunities.  In turn, I make a commitment to excelling in the promotion of the true spirit and ideals of Radford University , both in and out of the classroom. It takes people investing in me along the way, financially and confidently, to get these goals accomplished. By making a contribution to my education you have shown your place amongst these devoted supporters.

Many are blessed with a person or persons, aside from family members, with whom they attribute a level of their success. Without these people, the academic lows, financial woes, and family difficulties faced may not be easily overcome. Directly or indirectly, that person’s presence is there when the need is great. No price tag is attached, no fee is required, and more often than not, no request of that person is made.  These special people take time from their personal responsibilities to help sponsor another. I thank you unconditionally, for your contribution will not only assist in my career, but has undoubtedly placed you in a rare and special category.
